A Spectacular View of New Zealand from the Grand Panorama

The Bürstner Grand Panorama boasts a full 9m of classy comfort but handles like a car, says owner Wayne Zaloum who describes how well the "fantastic vehicle" handles rugged New Zealand roads.

Wayne and Cath Zaloum bought their Grand Panorama i920 from Wilderness at the Covi SuperShow in 2015. After 13 years of motorhome ownership the Napier couple decided to upgrade to a model with a fixed island bed and large comfortable living area.

Extensive research resulted in a decision that Wayne says they would make all over again. “The Grand Panorama was great value for money. It’s well-appointed with really nice trimmings and upholstery, and the big windscreen is truly amazing. Like all the Bürstner motorhomes, it’s classy and really comfortable.”

“It’s a fantastic motorhome. It drives unbelievably – it drives like a car! The heating system is brilliant and we can fit everything in the garage: a Vespa, the BBQ, beach chairs, the push bikes.”

Wayne and Cath have made some intrepid journeys in their Grand Panorama since they took possession of it last November. “We did the East Coast in April, beautiful! Lottin Point in Gisborne was the highlight of the trip. At the end of the sealed road was a lodge, and past the cattle-stop just a single lane shingle road with a very steep gradient and just enough space for 3 or 4 motorhomes at the end of it. It’s surrounded by hills and there is a really nice sheltered bay. We were lucky it wasn’t raining when we left, we got back out fine despite the shingle, the hill and the overhanging trees.”

Another trip was to Kawhia on the West Coast. “We took the Kawhia to Raglan road. It’s a shingle road with really gorgeous scenery. The road was pretty rough but the Panorama handled it well.”

Wayne loves the clever technology in their Grand Panorama. “It has a great shower and a really good compact kitchen with lots of features. The seating area is fantastic, and it’s got plenty of water." The longest trip they have made so far without needing to fill up the water tanks was ten days, despite both taking daily showers.

“If I was going to buy a motorhome again now I would do the same thing. We have absolutely no regrets about our decision. We looked at all the other motorhome companies. Sam and Nandor at Wilderness have been outstanding, it was a great handover and we haven’t had any issues.”

Wayne runs his own busy panel beating business full time, and loves to strike off in the Grand Panorama whenever they get the chance. “It’s a really relaxing lifestyle, it’s our way of chilling.”

The couple’s next trip is to Martinborough to visit the vineyards and the bikes are already stowed in the garage.
